I’ve been fascinated by former Defense Secretary James Mattis for many years. The reason why is because many people who know Mattis personally have said that he’s the most self- disciplined person they’ve ever met.
(Yes, I’m fascinated by people who’ve developed this superpower skill!)
I just started reading Mattis’s book, “Call Sign Chaos: Learning to Lead” and wanted to share his personal motto:
“no better friend, no worse enemy”
That’s awesome, isn’t it?
This motto hit home with me because it connects directly with what we’ve been working on over the last month: building a valuable network of high-level people.
How do we become better friends… the best friend someone could have?
Sadly, I have never really thought about this question. I have now and here’s are what I came up with:
- Once someone is your friend, they’re your friend for life
- No keeping score – If someone is your friend, you shouldn’t be measuring who does what for the friendship.
- Always be willing to go first – a good friend is someone who is always willing to take the first step in the friendship
- Don’t push your agenda on friends who aren’t interested
- Be there for them when they need you
- Be 100% honest.
- If possible, try to add value to their lives
The bottom line is that good friends make our lives better, which brings us back to The Golden Rule:
TREAT OTHER PEOPLE HOW
YOU WANT TO BE TREATED.
At the end of the day, your friends are your best network. You don’t want fake friends that are keeping score. Trust me, I’ve learnt this the difficult way.
A network is an extremely valuable asset that can be leveraged in unlimited ways. This is a superpower because a large network of high-level people makes life better.
Each month in our Cashflownaire Letter, included is a Badass Challenge. These challenges are designed to improve yourself. Do them and one area of your life improves. Don’t do them… and well, your self equity stagnates.
In last month’s Issue (September), we look at improving ourselves by building and fostering a successful network of people around you. You will get the exact steps you can take to significantly develop your network and improve yourself.
But be warned, we have released the October Newsletter and will be removing the past newsletters soon.
Become a Cashflownaire here and we’ll give you access to both the September and October Newsletter. We promise that you will improve yourself if you do our Badass Challenges.
Best,
